Title: System for adjusting size and scale of digital filters and creating digital filters

Abstract: The invention provides a technique of scaling a digital filter and of adjusting the width of a digital filter. The technique involves truncating a filter, attenuating its new endpoints and then adjusting the truncated filter by mixing in linear combinations of a set of basis vectors in a way which preserves the linearly defined properties of the original filter. A filter can also be created by defining a spectrum of the filter using a large number of points, performing a Fourier transform on the filter spectrum creating a spatial filter, and reducing a size of the spatial filter by truncating the spatial filter producing a truncated filter and combining the truncated filter with a set of basis vectors.
