Title: Method and apparatus to alternate stereoscopic images in a video displaydevice

Abstract: A method for displaying a stereoscopic image on a computer monitor includesthe use of a composite stereoscopic image where one of the left or righteye images is displayed on every odd-numbered horizontal scan line whilethe other image is displayed on every even-numbered horizontal scan line.In a first vertical scan, the odd-numbered horizontal scan lines arecancelled so that only the image displayed by the even-numbered linesvisible. In a second vertical scan, the even-numbered horizontal scanlines are cancelled so that only the image displayed by the odd-numberedhorizontal scan lines is visible. The first and second image states arealternately displayed with every vertical refresh cycle. LCD glasses whichalternately block the left eye or the right eye are synchronized to thealternation of the first and second image states, such that the left eyesees only the left eye image and the right eye sees only the right eyeimage, resulting in the user perceiving a stereoscopic image. Theinvention also relates to an apparatus for causing a computer monitor todisplay only odd-numbered horizontal scan lines during a first image stateand only even-numbered horizontal scan lines during a second image state, such that the first and second image states alternate with every verticalrefresh cycles. The apparatus includes means for synchronizing thealternation of the first and second image states with LCD glasses whichselectively block the left eye or right eye vision of a user.
