Title: Removal of oxygen from water

Abstract: For alleviating acid mine drainage arising from oxygenated water passingthrough pyrite, the water is de-oxygenated in an intercepting protectivelayer, which comprises a mixture of grains of pyrite and grains of iron. The grain sizes, concentrations, etc are selected to create an ensemble ofgalvanic cells at the points of contact between the iron grains and thepyrite grains. The pyrite cathode material becomes cathode-protected, andthe water becomes de-oxygenated, by the electrolytic action.
