Title: Electrostatic voltmeter with current source load

Abstract: An electrostatic voltmeter (ESV) and a method thereof provides anelectrical signal proportional to an electrostatic potential. The ESVincludes a high voltage input section that receives a high voltage signalrepresentative of an electrostatic potential. The high voltage signalinput section then generates a current signal representative of theelectrostatic potential. The current signal is applied to a control andsensing circuit. A high voltage current source is connected between thehigh voltage input section and a high voltage potential. The high voltagecurrent source acts as an active load for the control and sensing circuit.A voltage level determining section is connected to a node between thehigh voltage input section and the high voltage current source forproviding an electrical signal proportional to the electrostaticpotential. The EVS disclosed herein is particularly useful in measuringelectrostatic potential of a photoreceptor to control imaging in anelectrophotographic imaging system.
